Underground Hiphop Rap Video! YAY!

Song is called I Ain't Lazy and it's got Skratch Bastid handing the scratches and production with Pip Skid and John Smith on the raps. They actually got a video and shit is hot so peep. They have an album out called Taking Care Of Business and you would be wise to pick that shit up, you can get it at the Peanuts and Corn site.

I Ain't Lazy

Sage Francis' new video where he chases a bathroom sign guy through the streets of New York and also strokes his beard like a child molestor contemplating his next move.

Escape Artist

Peedi Peedi

Pedro Crakk is the 'rican in the middle.

My boy copped DJ E.Nyce's new "Prince of the Roc Part 2" Peedi Crakk mixtape. Apparently, Peedi dropped the "Crakk" from his name and is now just "Peedi Peedi." Whatever. The mixtape has its moments and is definitely worth your $5 to $7 investment. I posted some highlights below. Buzz around Peedi is that he's really one of the few new dudes on Roc-A-Fella with Star potential. I mean, to an extent, I can see it. Dude is charismatic as fuck and just plain ol' fun on the mic. His flow is ridiculous and his voice is hella distinct, but I think he's a bit too street for any real cross-over appeal (i.e. girls probably aren't gonna buy his record). Whatever though. Dude can rap his ass off.

Apparently bol has a website, too. I didn't know that until two seconds ago. Fuck. And now I just realized that all of these mp3s are posted over there, too. Fuck. Oh well. Enjoy anyway.

"Let's Go" Produced by Swizz Beatz
    - Peedi is effin' killing this shit. Flowing his silly ass off, sayin' dumb shit like "I'm a 'Rican and I'm eatin' and you leakin' on your chain" but killin' it anyway. Swizz's lil' minor-key chord progression on the hook is a bit stupid, but fuck it.

    "Your Eyes"
    - Pedro says "She put a lot of kisses on the stick I use to potty" over Timbo's "Potion" beat for Luda. 'Nuff said.

    "Monopoly" Featuring Jim Jones
    - Some ol' gangsta shit with Peedi and my Byrd Gang look alike and some sucky dude at the end.

    "Heat Roc"
    - A quick freestyle with dumb hot shit like "Me and my brother came out my brother with heat cocked." Hah!

    "A New Day"
    - An attempt at a song that is more than just flow and silly noises. Too bad it's only one verse. "See me postin' on Diamond." Hot nonetheless.

Cop the mixtape here.

the cookbook

I still have a bullshit internet connection and I'm posting this from work in between answering a million phone calls so it's a little scattered. My friend got the new Missy album and I got to listen to it once or twice so this is just my immediate reaction.

Basically - it's good. Not as good as Miss E and not as good as Da Real World but certainly not bad. It is all very much Missy's vision, which means lots of hot shit and the occasional overbaked old-school tribute song. Only two tracks have Timbaland, "Joy" with Mike Jones and "Party Time," both of which are better than most recent Timbaland joints. "Joy"'s shifting multi-movement banger makes me appreciate Mike Jones more, too, and reminds me of Timbaland in "Come and Get Me" prog-hop mode, conducting each movement. I'm glad that Missy's steered clear of Timbo for most of the album, though. Her last release was clearly her worst, despite the brilliant should-have-been single "Fix my Weave." This seems like a much more refreshingly Missy-In-Charge album, not because she says so (like her last album) but because it sounds like it.

Worst mis-step is not the ballads like everyone says, ignore these people! Not that I like these Missy ballads all that much compared to her best ones (clearly those on Supa Dupa Fly), but the worst track is without a doubt the Apache "tribute." Where "Lose Control" is a hype reworking of Cybotron, "We Run This" is anemic, and worse, unneccessary. We already have one "Apache," the reason I like "Made U Look" is because (like a million other songs before it) it looped familiar drums and totally adjusted the original mood of the track, referencing the old-school shit subtly, rather than over-the-top "remember when...?" The best Missy 'old school' tributes were subtle references, new songs that hit the best touchpoints of a period without significantly aping the music itself; in other words, it went for old school feeling rather than recreating old school songs. Like "Old School Joint" on Miss E which is a transcendent disco thump filtered through Timbo's contrasting high-end cyberwashes and a rattling bass that sounds just slightly off the beat. Or that one motorik sounding kraut jam near the end! Everything was coming from weird different directions, old school joints not compromsing because above all they were designed to make you dance.

That isn't to say this more conservative direction is bad per se, it just makes this album less exciting, when the tracks can't balance throwback and futurism well enough. Although the ratio of great to ehhhh is pretty good on the whole. I even like the joint with M.I.A., although Vybz Kartel clearly ran things on that shit. I'm feeling really good about this release, even when the old school nostalgia crops up a little too often; Grand Puba and Slick Rick both turn in good-enough guest verses. On the whole, The Cookbook is good, old school jams and all. All the same, ironically enough, I feel nostalgic for when Missy wasn't.

Twisted Sister Sucks but I don't give a fuck

Yeah that's right bitches fuck this hiphop blog bullshit it's all about Twisted motherfucking Sister. I have been fascinated by this band ever since I saw Flight Of The Navigator. At the time I had no idea who the fuck they were because I was 7 years old but I knew they had to rule because I wanted to ride in a robotic cart with Sarah Jessica Parker. Twisted Sister isn't really all that brilliant rock shit but fuck this shit rules because half the time it's goddamn ridiculous. Growing up on rap music made these motherfuckers seem tame as fuck which is part of the reason I think they are great. I think one of the greatest things about Twisted Sister is their creativity. I'm sure most folks have heard their big hit "We're Not Gonna Take It" but did you hear the even awesomer song "We're Gonna Make It?" Other than a handful of lyrics this shit is the exact same fucking song, well except for being a little more mom friendly because it now offers words of encouragement so that you too can be a successful stockbroker just like daddy. Unfortunately for TS this song didn't blow up like it should have but that's ok. I still got hard as fuck songs like Burn In Hell where Dee Snider tells you how he lives his life by the edge of a knife because he's so fucking gangsta with it. Or Street Justic where Dee Snider fights for the child that screams late at night, he's a goddamn superhero. Just the concept that these cockrock motherfuckers were suppose to be scary is fucking awesome to me.

The Price

It's a life you got to choose if you want to play in the game that is rock and roll. You have no idea what sacrifices Dee Snider had to make to join up with TS in 1976. Sometimes he actually wonders if it's worth it to carry on with this shit, don't you fucking understand the immense pressure he has to put on blush and rock the fuck out? Show some fucking respect for Twisted Sister's pain your shitbags.

Burn In Hell

Dark menacing beat because you're all going to burn in hell. Fucking crap this shit is so fucking fierce. Just listen to those guitars. My fucking god aren't you pissing your pants? The slow sinister build up to a firestorm of hell infused rock and fucking roll, fuck this rules. Make your choice now because tomorrow maybe to late.

S.M.F.

You're a sick motherfucker, you're nothing like the rest failing all the tests, so hungry and so lean, you're a metal machine. Yeah we're fucking hardcore metal motherfuckers but we're too shy to actually say motherfucker on a record.

Like A Knife In the Back

because Dee Snider will fucking kill you for not rocking hard enough.

yeah it's about five o'clock on a saturday, I'm kind of drunk, and I've got some Twisted Sister blasting out of my computer right now pissing my neighbors off so that's why you got this post. If you don't like that well then you have no idea how it is to be as awesome as me, drunk and rocking the fuck out by yourself to some horrible ass music. Oh but it's also here because they rule and I just think it's funny to post some Twisted Sister on this blog. I'd post more stuff but I can't find my cd's in this mess.

G.T. with Who and the People's Champ

This track is so new that Paul Wall is currently running to the studio to record it!

Brand spankin' new joint that was posted on Soulstrut.

- "You Don't Wanna"
G.T. featuring Mike Jones and Paul Wall
Produced by Mike B and the Craft.

So new I don't even know what the eff it's called. Paul Wall is killing it.

The Craft website says this:

The Craft is Houston's number one production team. Having worked with gold and platinum artist such as George Clinton, Big Mike, UGK, Devin The Dude and others. The Craft's legacy has only scratched the surface of what it means to be a hit maker. Mike B, Storm and DJ Styles have come together to create a unique blend of beats and music. The goal of The Craft is to place Houston on the map as universal force for beats and production that speaks to the masses. The main objective of the team is to bring highest quality of production to any project at an affordable rate. For anyone searching for beats on par with that of major label producers like Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, Timbaland, The Neptunes and others, but their budgets are on an independent scale, The Craft has what you are looking for.

Speed Of Life

Before Xzibit was making soft club tracks for girls from the suburbs who dream of getting their cars pimped with weak ass neon lights and shitty ground effects that went out of style 10 years ago the dude put out on of my favorite albums. I never thought this album really got the props it deserved so I decided to throw it up on here. His video for Paparazzi use to get some minimal play on MTV but that was about it. Oh how I miss the days when Xzibit just stood in the background of the likwit crew holding a shotgun, well at least that's what the alkaholiks said he did.

Carry The Weight

One of my favorite tracks off this shit, I use to come home after dealing with the stupidest girlfriend I ever had and just rock the fuck out of this song. Some how trying to make my self feel better by trying to relate my high school anger to Xzibit's story of growing up being treated like shit.

The Foundation

You know in high school when you get some teacher who really wants to teach you the value of poetry so they decide to get hip and make you do some project where students pick songs and figure out all the metaphors that make that shit a poem so that kids will think wow, my shitty pop song is almost a poem. Well my teacher did that shit and I picked this song and the Gza's "Swordsman." She told me the Gza song was weird but the Xzibit song was "nice." Probably because that piano is just so fucking heartwarming.

Plastic Surgery ft Saafir and Ras Kass

Another dope team up from some westcoast underground cats that could never get their shit together to release a dope ass album. For years I use to pray that a Golden State Warriors album would finally drop but every goddamn year I was left with disappointment. Because of this I learned a valuable lesson, when it comes to rappers making dope stuff don't ever fucking believe them because rappers are fucking lying cunts who love to toy with the hopes of teenage hiphop kids.

DJ Muggs - Decisions, Decisions ft Goodie Mob

Off that Soul Assassins joint that Muggs dropped a few years back. This song came up when I had my playlist on random and I had forgotten how much I liked it so I decided to throw it up on here. Goodie still in their prime, before they released that wack as fuck World Party bullshit. Just rocking it over that dusty crackling piano loop.

I Ain't Heard Of That Video

Considering Slim Thugs album leaked over 6 months ago they had to change shit up some how so for the release they threw a guest verse from good old Bun B. I'm still don't like this beat no matter who they get to guest on it. The video is really pushing the limits of hiphop videos, it's in Black and WHITE! Wow, no one has ever done that before, at least with Pharrell in the video too. Fuck you would think these shitty directors would try a little harder than this to make a goddamn video. Whatever though, click the link to watch.

Jackin' for mo' mp3s...

Some philly bol (do I know you "Jack"?) has a hot blog where he's breaking us off with some Miami Bass shit. A couple songs off the new Before There Was Crunk compilation, some Bass classics, and a DJ Shadow Miami Bass mix from '99 amongst other things Miami-Bass-related. Go over there and kill his yousendit links, then blow up his comments seciton and tell him somanyshrimp sent you.

Jackin For Mp3's

Capski over at Laundromat United posted up this DJ Quik and B-Real joint.Quik sounds better on it than B-Real who I think is starting to get to old for his style. The beat is based around some synthezied horns that do kind of give it that newer bay shit style. Overall the song isn't super amazing or anything but it's worth checking.

Funniest Shit Ever...

Jesus christ.

I'm at work laughing my fucking ass off right now. Listen to (at least) the first 9 seconds of this Juelz "The Hood is Back" shit.

The rest is hot, but the first 9 seconds are fucking hysterical.

Haha! God, I'm dying here, peoples.

He also says: "I'm like an apple with a worm in it, or more like a Don King statue with a perm in it."

Umeancompetitor at it again with that dipset crack.

Roll Deep video

Someone emailed us a link to this Roll Deep video for their song When I’m Ere. I guess the album drops June 6th. It's cute stuff but has some corny moments that annoys me when it comes to a lot of grime like through out the song there is this whiny ass "eeeee" sound. It's fucking lame as hell. The whole video is the camera following each member of roll deep along the streets as they sport the exact same black hoodie. Between verses the camera cuts and it's the next rapper in the same clothes. Nothing to flashy, just rappers trying to look hard in hoddies at night.

Low Profile

Back in 1989 Ice T decided to help put on WC and Dj Aladdin, they released this album on Priority. Back then WC was so much more carefree and full of life, much like a new born fawn skipping along the hillside. He rapped with such beautiful tranquility. Oh it warms my heart with sunshine to listen to this album. Sometimes I like to take this album along when I have picnics or write poetry in the park, it's wonderful, you should try it. Before he was ever the Ghetto Heisman or even Coolio's dad he was sporting those cheap ass Russell sweaters you get at kmart with some faded ass black jeans and a one size fits all raiders hat. Who knew that this young fawn would grow up to become the Shadiest One. Oh how WC's sweet innocence was lost much like when Bambi saw his father die. Aladdin who much like Thumper brings emense joy and purpose to WC's music as he works his sp1200 and 808 to create some of that sample based westcoast sound but laced with that 89 scratch before anyone gave two shits about turntablism.

Crunk & Grime

My girlfriend actually won this CD off of Semtex's site and I decided to check it out of curiosity. The mix of styles makes sense so I was interested how Semtex planned on flipping that shit. I've never actually listened to any of Semtex's stuff, no matter how much Matt told me too. Anyways I threw this in the headphones for the walk to work and was surprised that I like it as much as I do. You do get some of those cheeseball grime lyrics but for the most part the mix works. Semtex actually kicks off the mix with some commentary from the DamageControl show when they had Dizzee on and he ends it with the Gritboys and Dizzee freestyle from that same show. The first three tracks are over Lil Jon's What You Goin Do beat and then he plays Lil Jon's acapella over some grime beat that I don't know. I don't like the beat they chose for that remix, the drums are ok but it's got this electronic squeak that just sounds stupid over a song that's about fighting.

Crime Mob - Nuck If You Warp

My favorite track on this shit is probably this remix of Nuck If You Buck, they play the instrumental over some other grime beat that I don't know either. It's sounds pretty dope compared to darker more stripped down original. I don't like when some of these grime beats start to sound like fucking circus music but this beat has the aggressiveness it needs for a song like this.

Crazy Titch - Crunk Along

This joint with some dude whose name I actually recognize but I don't know anything about him over the Nuck If You Buck beat. Little touch of distortion in the vocals with plenty of punch in's from Crazy Titch. Semtex backspinning on the parts he thinks you need to hear more than once. He follows that song with Ludacris's number one song that I fucking hate because it's so stupid. It's like ludacris's attempt at making some dumbass circus music. Fucking Kardinal Official is on this cut too? I thought his career had gone the way of snow. Just another Canadian rapper that no one cared to remember, but I guess I was wrong.

Kardinal Official - Fast FWD

Now I know I just no one gives a shit about Kardinal Official but that was before I remembered he wrecked this song. I was really surprised this was him on this track, fuck it's Kardinal Official, I'm not suppose to give a fuck about hearing him rap. As much as I'm surprised to actually like one of his tracks I'd have to say I like this song mostly because of the beat which apparently is the "forward riddim". I don't give a fuck about keeping up with that riddim shit, there are too many out there for me to care what the fuck they are called. Shit only reason I recognize this beat is because David posted a video for this shit once. Semtex uses this beat for the track before it with Lethal and Stat Quo and then for the next track that has Pitbull rapping over it.

Damage Control Freestyle

And finally we close out with Dizzee Rascal double timing over Still Tippin while the Gritboys slow it down during a freestyle on damage control. I think my favorite part of the freestyle is when one of the Gritboys says "get chili like Frito Pies" HA! Anyone that references Texas public school lunch menus is fucking awesome in my book.

"Afta Da Relays 2K5" - Rapid Ric and Mr. Rogers

Believe it or not, this is the biggest fucking picture I could find of this shit

Usually Serg and Dave hold down the Texas and Southern shit up on the shrimp, but at the Devin the Dude show, all-around good dude Matt Sonzala hit me off with this “Afta da Relays 2K5” mix CD by Rapid Ric and Mr. Rogers. Shit is bangin’ all the way through and, believe it or not, this shit is actually a bonafied “mix” tape in the sense where dudes actually DJ and blend and shit… which to me is dope! Here’s a couple snips from the mixtape. I highly suggest you run o’er to here to cop the shit.

By the way, these jawns are all WMA files because cdex won’t work for me at work and I did this shit at work… shhhh!

”From the South (Texas Remix)” – Z.Ro, Trae, SLAB, Paul Wall, Chalie Boy, Chamillionaire

“Texas Remix” of the Z. Ro track “From the South” originally featuring Paul Wall and Lil’ Flip from Z. Ro’s “Let the Truth be Told Album.” Here’s a link to the OG. Both are dope.

”Day 2 Day Hustle” – Kalief, Chamillionaire (Freeway “In Full Effect” Instrumental)

Kalief and Chamillionaire killing it on the Chad West produced Freeway track “In Full Effect.” Chamillionaire comes tight on this shit and both dudes ride the shit out of the beat.

”Getcha Head Right” – Bun. B, Chops

Dude, I find it so weird that this dude Chops is all into Texas shit these days. I guess on some level it’s pretty cool that this dude who used to be an underground dork is now into Texas ‘hood shit, but he needs to stay behind the boards ‘cause dude sounds hella out of place on this shit. Not to mention the fact that his delivery is crud and his lyrics are embarrassingly corny at times. I mean, dude says “My pops was an engineer at Texas Instruments and now Chops is back in Texas engineering, playing instruments.” UGH! Are you serious, dude? Did you really just say that on a track with Bun B?! The fuck is that cornball shit? Anyway, I’m assuming he made this beat and it’s definitely a knocker. E’ryone’s new favorite old rapper Bun B is smobbin’ all over this shit.

”This is What They Made Me” – Trae, Rapid Ric

Trae spitting over a basic loop of one of my favorite Kanye West beats (State Prop’s “Nowhere to Go”). I really like how these Texas guys sound on “east coast” beats. The bol Trae chops this shit up pretty hard, spitting pretty tough triplets throughout most of the track. I fucks with it.

”A Week Ago” – Yung Redd, Trae

More Trae over east coast shit, this time on Juelz Santana’s “Jealousy” beat produced by the Heatmakerz. Again, I think both Trae and Yung Redd sound real dope on this east coast shit, with their slow cadence and accents over the hyper-quick, chipmunk soul-ness. Shit bangs.

Jay Z & Aztec

Herm posted this joint up on soulstrut and apparently the roc is getting down with some mexican power. Aztec is some rapper out of houston, he says 3rd ward but I've never heard of this dude and can't seem too find any info on him so if anyone knows what's up drop some info. Jay-z uses up a majority of the song with Aztec only getting in two very short verses. His verses aren't mindblowing or anything but since David wants to post some Lil Rob I figure we kept up with the browntown looting. Word on the internets is that Aztec is some new Roc "la familia" artist.

back then freestyle
